tonight tonight – today today

Well, tonight was fun fun fun… while doing laundry at my dad’s, I messed with his computer a lot.

He had 4 more virii, and 69 spy ware thingies.  Ugh.  But I
upgraded his stupid netscape browser from 6.2 to 7.1… Newer mozilla
engine is faster, but no where near that of 1.8a nightlies.

So while doing that, and trying to do a defrag on windows 98, I used
putty to update his debian firewall.  I finally got a new debian
kernel on that thing… 2.6.5 is much nicer than 2.6.0-test9.
Named stopped working in debian and I needed some kernel module called
“capability”.  Its an odd one, but I’m guessing it gives the named
user account ability to listen on port 53, like a delegation of
privilege.  Then I started messing with snmp and mrtg.

After going home and putting away the laundry, I dove back into the
snmp and mrtg.  It was a bit more challenging than on Mandrake,
but this is probably due just as much to my inexperience with snmp, as
it is to the wonders of Mandrake.  So Debian’s snmpd is tcp
wrapped, but Mandrake’s is not.  Worse yet, Debian’s doesn’t like
“localhost”, it requires the IP of 127.0.0.1… sheesh… talk about
picky.  I must have blew 1/2 and hour just on that!  OUCH My
wrist is hurting typing all this.  I guess that MS Keyboard at
work has spoiled me!

So the end result is cfgmaker and indexmaker working like pie, and my
mrtg showing up at http://little.xmtp.net/mrtg/  Neat eh?

The today today part was just some bad arse scrpting and automation I
did for work.  Not to mention some cool Linux 802.1q VLAN stuff I
did.  Man it is turning out to be quite the week.

hurray! finally got through chapter 2 of “Creating Applications with Mozilla” – i don’t know why the stuff in the last section wasn’t working… but it wasn’t 🙂

whooo weeeee

why didn’t you tell me that Luna was so fun on a Tuesday?

You did?

Why don’t I remember that?

I am?

ok… so I consciencely made the desicion last night to get drunk and come to work hung over. I’m only a little hung over, and had I not actually planned this, I’d probably be pissed at myself. Still no coffee yet this morning. The network guys wanted to apply some firewalls rules and they wanted my input and wanted me to monitor stuff to make sure things are OK.

bender bender bender

deepest sender

Hrm. I wondered what that deepest sender thing in my firefox menu meant.

I think I installed this mozilla lj client and I forgot about it.

I’m glad to have found it this morning.

Ok, so I took your advice (all 2 of you), and I redid my webpage.

Its VERY simple now, but I learned a lot doing it. I was familar with CSS and XHTML, but not with using the DOM and Javascript, so now I am familiar with that too!

So now my list of things to do is down to 2. I guess I don’t need a poll entry for it.

making RPMS is fun!

I just uploaded kivio-stencils-0.1-1mdk.src.rpm to incoming. It is the files from http://sourceforge.net/projects/xfig2sml/

It will be nice to have added stencils for kivio available.

How many narcissists does it take to do performance art?

Eleven.

If you are Chaos.

Last night I went to Luna in Royal Oak and when I was told at the door that cover was more because there was a show, I gasped! “Is it Causing a Scene?” I asked. “No, it is Chaos”, I was told.

I didn’t think it could get worse than Causing a Scene. Tired and pointless performance art that is just interesting enough that you can watch it, laugh, and remember the first time you saw something like that, ten to fifteen years ago. I’m only in my mid twenties. Calling it performance art is an abuse of the word art. It is more just a performance.

Chaos takes performance to a whole new level, a lower level than ever before. Not only was it tired and pointless, it was boring. It started off great, with good music. A loop that sounded like the Bjork Enjoy Further over the edge mix from the Telegram remix album. I said “Cool, I love this song.” and I proceeded to the floor to watch. What followed was the most pathetic attempt at performance that I have ever witnessed.

It was obvious that whatever rehersal they did was not infront of a video camera or reviewed by anyone else in anyway. If it were, I cannot believe that the event would have happened.

The event was called “Cyborg”. There was a single male and nine females in silver body paint. There was one female not in body paint. The male was on stage and each female walked out on stage, slowly, like a cross between doing the robot and walking down the isle like a bashful 4 year old flower girl. It took forever. The male posed the nine silver clad females in different positions, but none of them were suggestive or provative. It was more like the same 4 year old might pose her toy doll. Finally, the non-silver painted female entered the stage, and the contrast was not at all interesting. As they cut off her shirt in the most uninteresting shedding of clothes that I have ever seen on stage, a large round man actually showted “Titties!” in excitement. But alas, there were no titties. Well, at least not bare ones.

The seconds song got me ever more excited than the first. Wumpscut has always been a favorite of mine, and Christfuck is an awesome song. But when the proceeded to do more of the same old boring stage movement ammounting to nothing, I said to my friend “hey, lets go dance behind the crowd.” So we did. I’m not sure if the people on stage (I hesitate to call them performers) saw this or not, but I hope they took it as the biggest fuck you that they could possibly take it as.

Summary: Horribly boring things on stage, to very good music.

what to do?

I am bored, should I

  1. Redo my old crusty website
  2. Try to write a mozilla/firefox/thunderbird extension which syncs bookmarks and address book to a central location so its the same at home and work
  3. Work on a nice front end to CBQ bandwidth shaping
  4. Work on an iSCSI target daemon/driver. I still think this could be done in userland.

I don’t have a paid account, so I can’t do a poll… so this will have to do.
