Friday night Jazz in AA

Last night was pretty cool. I was napping when Janice called to invite me to Leopolds. After waking up and leaving I arive to find out… NO STOUT… tender says some shit about how they are a so and so distiller and they don’t do any some and suches so they don’t have Stout. What a load of malarchy.

Lots of talk, too much estrogen (only dude, 4 fems)… and only a single beer (24oz) and I was ready to roll, so we rolled, the fems were hungry. After much aimless wandering we ended up at Bambino’s or some such mexican joint on 4th street. Damn good grub. Then we loitered the streets of ann arbor for at least an hour before we decided we could use another drink. Blind pig had cover, and a stop at grizzlebies(or whatever the name is) lead us to Firefly.

Damn, what a pleasant surprise. Greeted with a “nah, you don’t have to pay the cover” and “turn of your cell phones, they are recording”, we enter to a wonderful sounding traditional jazz trio. Now I am not a jazz head, I simply enjoy live music and this was exceptionally nice. We caught about 6 songs. 4 of ’em had a vocalist. The ol’ lady was pretty good. When they closed with Route’66 all I could think of was depeche mode. I’m bad.

Ah, the funny part of the night was walking main street in aa. The sound side of downtown there is a pair of restaurants. Walking by one of them I noticed a couple had just received a pair of beautiful orange lobsters. The mahem had begun. Next time… I’m going to steal the lobsters off their plates and run. After 3 steps I will turn around, place the lobster in my left hand into my mouth for holding, because I’ll be stealing the melted butter off the womans plate as well. I don’t want the mans butter. Then I’ll be RUNNING!!! Oh can you imagine the thoughts going through their heads as the lobster theif runs away! So much fun!

At some point during the 4th Jazz song, I realized the most fun part of the lobster mehem event! LOBSTER MAGNET!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Anyone recall this super fun flash movie? *sigh* I chuckled while I thought of the lobster magnet. My posse of 3 fems were none the wiser.

Telling the Iowa visitors where to drink beer was funny. I said Leopold was six blocks “thata-way”. They said “six blocks?” like it was a lifetime trek of sorts. What a bunch of lazy fucks. I mean I know towns in Iowa are small, but christ, I would think they have towns larger than six blocks!

bhahahahah

Ferie dearest, was it loe soothfast or a façade;
A serenade siren’d to lure – Zounds! not to court me?
A menad, yet the sweetest colleen –
Certes didst thou me unveil meekly life pristine.

Lorelei,
A poet of tragedies, scribe I lauds to Death,
Yet who the hell was I to dare?
Lorelei,
Canst thou not see thou to me needful art?
Canst thou not see the loss of loe painful is?

Dedally didst thou perform the tragic pasquinade,
For all years a damndest and driegh’d accolade –
Caus’d for all eyes mazed to behold a mêlee;
In the midst did I swainly cast thee my bouquet:
The one and sole faggot that feedeth the fire,
Bellow’d bidingly by my heart’s quailing quire.

Lorelei,
A poet of tragedies, scribe I lauds to Death,
Yet who the hell was I to dare?
Lorelei,
Canst thou not see thou to me needful art?
Canst thou not see the loss of loe painful is?

Perchance author I thee this ikon’d apologue for aught,
Doth the wecht burthen thee?, then bethink thine afterthought:
‘Tween Aether and ‘Nether art thou the peerless phoenix –
Prithee, darlingmost! – court me rather than the peevish prolix.

and that is it.  that is all I got.

spent.

i’ve been listening again.

I have music again, I’ve been listening again.

About a year ago, my 95 VM Golf started exhibiting numerous problems.  After getting something fixed in Aug-Sep of 03, the car died in Oct-Nov.  Not having money or ambition to fix it, compounded by the RX7, I left the car in a parking lot all winter long.  It was not until April that I moved the car.  I did not care, the ’86 Mazda RX7 with only ~30k miles on it was damn fun.  I showed it its first winter.

In June, I get the VW back from the shop, after dropping more $ that it was worth to fix.  I’m less than happy about its status when I get it back.  They shop said it had electrical problems, but when you get a car back, and you just paid through the nose, you expect things to work.  Things didn’t work.  No turn signals, no hazards, no power sunroof, and worst of all, no radio.

I love my radio.  I have a Pioneer P550MP that plays MP3 CDs.  It has adequate power for listening, even at 70Mph with the windows down.  I used to rock out all alone in the car to all the good music that (my wife, although gf at the time) doesn’t like.

Compound further still with the fun facts that for the past 3+weeks, I’ve been driving 70+miles to work, in each direction.  NO STEREO!!!  Three hours in the car daily is not so bad, even without a stereo.  It is fun to yell at traffic.  It is fun to be alone with ones thoughts.  It is fun to…  Well, there isn’t much else to do while driving.

Saturday, I tore car apart(not much actually), and shorted some wires and replaced some fuses, et voila!  STEREO!!!  Mmm… is so good.

My favorite now is singing along.  NoFX, Blink 182 – Josie, rapping to big pun.  Damn there were songs that were old standards for me, that I haven’t heard in over a year, only because I used to only listen to them in the car!  But by far the absolute best and most favorite right now is singing along to Radiohead.  I especially enjoy trying to sing along to Street Spirit and being completely inadequate to hit the notes, my voice screetches, but I don’t care.  I’m alone in my car and no one can hear me by me… and maybe God… and the spirits… and since grandma and grandpa are with God now too… maybe they can hear me… hrm… I’m almost embaraced now… but grammy and grampy won’t mind.  Who else may hear me?  Budha?  Ghandi?  hrm… Only embaraced for a second there.  nope…  oh well.

Hrm.  This post certainly digressed into stupidity.  I was going to post something in my own words, about something going on in my life, and the stereo story is as good as any.  I figured my LJ is far from a window to my psyche, so I thought I’d try to let you all get to know my better, but alas.  My post quickly fell to stupidity.  Through this window to my psyche you can see my stupidity.

Scorpions – Still Lovin’ You

 Time, it needs time
To win back your love again
I will be there, I will be there
 Love, only love
Can bring back your love someday
I will be there, I will be there

 I'll fight, babe, I'll fight
To win back your love again
I will be there, I will be there
 Love, only love
Can break down the wall someday
I will be there, I will be there

 If we'd go again
All the way from the start
 I would try to change
The things that killed our love
Your pride has built a wall, so strong
 That I can't get through
 Is there really no chance
 To start once again
 I'm loving you

 Try, baby try
To trust in my love again
I will be there, I will be there
 Love, our love
 Just shouldn't be thrown away
I will be there, I will be there

 If we'd go again
All the way from the start
 I would try to change
The things that killed our love
Your pride has built a wall, so strong
 That I can't get through
 Is there really no chance
 To start once again

 If we'd go again
All the way from the start
 I would try to change
The things that killed our love
Yes, I've hurt your pride, and I know
 What you've been through
You should give me a chance
 This can't be the end
 I'm still loving you
I'm still loving you, I need your love
 I'm still loving you

shock and awe

I haven’t been shocked by computing in a while.  I’m configuring this IBM FC SAN switch for the first time ever.  It is actually an IBM labeled Brocade switch running Brocade Fabric OS.  It turns out Fabris OS is…  LINUX!  (dramatic dum dum dum!)

Now I am rarely surprised when it comes to finding these types of things, but this really did shock me.  Brocade is the Cisco of storage networks, so this is on the level of discovering that Cisco IOS was indeed Linux… wouldn’t that shock everyone?

back to work.
